SwissSign launches single secure login service

SwissSign, a joint venture between Swiss Post and Swiss Federal Railways (SSB), has created SwissID, a secure single login service that allows users to have one username and password for multiple websites.

The service aims to eradicate the problem of having numerous login details to remember for each online portal used, or needing to register personal details repetitively to new websites. It is free to use for private users, and Swiss Post is now offering the service to interested companies and authorities.

Protecting customer data was the main focus of the SwissID development process. Users retain exclusive sovereignty over their personal data and data protection regulations are fully observed.

The first Post portal customers will be able to log in with SwissID from autumn 2017, with SwissPass customers to follow in 2018. As such, more than four million customers will benefit from this service over the next two to three years.

Markus Naef, CEO of SwissSign, said, “SwissID lays the foundations for digitization in Switzerland. With SwissID, we’re creating a long-overdue service for the people, government and companies. With the backing of SBB and Post, we have enough momentum to get this service successfully off the ground.”

Drone footage of Hermes super hub

Hermes UK has opened its new purpose built, automated parcel distribution hub in Rugby, the biggest of its kind in the UK. The £31m (US$40m) development represents the most significant investment in the company’s history and will create more than 100 jobs. Located in Rugby, the Midlands super hub measures 270,000ft², the equivalent of 34 soccer pitches, and has the capability to efficiently process in excess of one million parcels each day.

UPS delivery drivers trained using VR simulations

UPS has announced that it will start training student delivery drivers to spot and identify road hazards using virtual reality (VR) headsets that simulate the experience of driving on city streets. The company will launch VR training at nine UPS Integrad training facilities in September.
