Assam post offices go for gold
In Assam, people planning to buy gold coins will no longer have to visit an ornament store or a jeweller as they are now available at post offices in the state. The postal department have launched a scheme under which five post offices across the state – Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat , Mangoldoi and Guwahati GPO – will sell pure gold coins of different denominations. The coins are 24 carat gold and produced by Valcambi, Switzerland, in association with the World Gold Council and Reliance Money Infrastructure Limited.

Danish mail strikes for local wage deals
Industrial action halted mail delivery in parts of Denmark on Wednesday (9 June). Teams of drivers, who deliver mail to distribution facilities, went on strike in a protest to local wage deals. Areas affected by the strike included capital city Copenhagen, and large parts of eastern Denmark, including areas in Zealand and Funen. Package deliveries were also affected.

Swiss Post Solutions goes digital
Swiss Post Solutions – a subsidiary of Swiss Post – has been working on a large digitisation project for the Swiss accident insurance company Suva. Digitisation is one of the core competencies of Swiss Post Solutions and increases the service quality and efficiency of the insurance company’s case management processes. With its digital document management services, Swiss Post supports its customers in integrating physical correspondence into electronic business processes and information flows. Media discontinuities and associated error sources can thus be avoided, while productivity and the quality of data management can be enhanced.

Aramex receives Express gong
Transportation and logistics solutions specialist Aramex was named the Express Logistics Provider of the Year and winner of the Outstanding Achievement of the Year award at the Supply Chain & Transport Awards 2010, recently held in Dubai. In addition Aramex was recognised for its exceptional performance in a range of other categories, including winning second place in the Corporate Social Responsibility and 3PL Service Provider of the Year categories.

Drone footage of Hermes super hub

Hermes UK has opened its new purpose built, automated parcel distribution hub in Rugby, the biggest of its kind in the UK. The £31m (US$40m) development represents the most significant investment in the company’s history and will create more than 100 jobs. Located in Rugby, the Midlands super hub measures 270,000ft², the equivalent of 34 soccer pitches, and has the capability to efficiently process in excess of one million parcels each day.

UPS delivery drivers trained using VR simulations

UPS has announced that it will start training student delivery drivers to spot and identify road hazards using virtual reality (VR) headsets that simulate the experience of driving on city streets. The company will launch VR training at nine UPS Integrad training facilities in September.
